LYRIC COMPETITION GIUDITTA PASTA
From the 3rd to the 6th of May 2023, the Saronno stage named after the famous soprano Giuditta Pasta will host the second edition of the International Lyric Competition in her honour.
After the great success of the I edition, which counted more than 130 applicants from all over the world and ten months after the 2022 edition in the Kumamoto District in Japan, the Cultural Foundation Giuditta Pasta, with the support of the Municipality of Saronno, opens its doors to the II edition of the International Lyric Competition Giuditta Past, a precious opportunity of international scope dedicated to young talents of the “bel canto” from all over the world.
The application deadline is on the 28th April.
The Competition, whose artistic direction is entrusted to M° Maurizio Moretta, sets itself the aim of promoting high musical education, to sustain and launch the career of the winners, both via scholarships (the total prize pool amounts at € 8000) and via concerts or opera productions in important theatres around the world, also in order to strengthen the link with the Kumamoto City Opera.
Giuditta Pasta and Saronno have a long-dated relationship, starting in 1797, year of her birth right in this city. After her, have been named the city Theatre in 1990 and the International Lyric Competition in 2019; in 2020, the municipal administration realized a museum itinerary of the more than 600 artworks of the Cavallari collection. Giuditta Pasta has trodden the stages of many theatres and for her Donizetti wrote the Anne Boleyn, Coccia wrote Mary Stuart and Pacini the Niobe, while Bellini wrote The Sleepwalker and the Norma, which she performed with unequalled dramatic strength. Naming the Competition after Giuditta Pasta is supposed to be the impetus and model for all the ones who dream of enchanting audiences of all over the world with the “bel canto”.
The International Lyric Competition was born as a challenge, from the ambitious idea of combining cultural and artistic aims to the creation and development of the image of Saronno city which gave birth to this great lyric interpreter, other than proving to the city the opportunity of be characterized as an international cultural centre on our territory.

Nel cuore di Giuditta (In Giuditta’s heart) Concert

The Municiapl Administration organizes the Nel cuore di Giuditta (In Giuditta’s heart) Concert, a journey to discover the most famous opera artist of the Nineteenth century. Andrea Germi, Curator of the Museum Collection “La Divina”. The pieces will be performed by pianist Claudio Zampetti, accompanied by soprano Tullia Pedersoli; following a libretto that includes music by Chopin, Cimarosa, Schubert, to quote the most famous, will be also performed three compositions whose scores are an exclusive part of the Cavallari Collection, part of the Museum Collection “Villa Gianetti. Un salotto a Saronno”. The compositions are named Adieu a la Pasta, by F. Ouseley, Invito alla campagna, composed by Giuditta Pasta herself, and Introduzione e Tema, composed by Anonimo for Carlotta Ferranti, Giuditta’s niece.
Guided tours of the Cavallari Collection
Guided tours of the Cavallari Collection in Villa Gianetti, entirely dedicated to the figure of Giuditta Pasta, are scheduled for April 29th and 30th, May 6th and 7th on the occasion of the event Open villas in Brianza in which is inserted Villa Gianetti with its Museum Collection.
